Destiny 2 Season of the Haunted brings in new activities, new weekly story missions, new loot, and more for players to pursue. There is also Season of the Haunted Triumphs alongside Triumphs Seal, which many players will be looking to complete to gain the Reaper Title.
One particular Season of the Haunted Triumph called Shadow's Return is a bit intricate and tedious, not to mention confusing to complete. If you're one of those who are struggling to finish this Triumph, don't worry. Here's our guide that explains how to complete the Shadow's Return Triumph in Destiny 2 Season of the Haunted.
Steps to complete Shadow's Return Triumph in Destiny 2 Season of the Haunted
The Shadow's Return Triumph is a multi-step Triumph in Destiny 2, for which you have to complete four different objectives.
- Fever Dream
- A guardian Is a Guardian, Even in a Nightmare,
- Get to Taking out Their Commanders, One by One
- Controller Burn
Unfortunately, all the aforementioned objectives are standalone multi-step Triumphs of their own. You will have to complete these sub-Triumphs first, which would then automatically complete the final Triumph.
Fever Dream
To complete the Fever Dream Triumph, you have to defeat four powerful Nightmares within Haunted Alcoves on the Derelict Leviathan.
- Sporest of Beasts
- Nightmare Breached
- Drainage
- Ritual Under Shadow
If you didn't know, Haunted Alcoves are hidden areas within the Pleasure Garden and Royal Pool regions of Derelict Leviathan. Inside every Haunted Alcove, you will find one of the aforementioned Nightmare bosses.
You won't have trouble finding these Haunted Alcoves, though you won't always find these Nightmare bosses waiting for you inside these hidden areas. Instead, they will randomly appear from time to time.
Whenever one of these powerful Nightmares appears, you will get a text pop-up on the left-hand corner of your screen. For example, in the case of Nightmare of Caron, Beastmaster, who you have to defeat for the Sporest of Beasts Triumph, a text saying, "A distant snore of War Beasts," will appear.
Below is the list of the remaining Nightmare bosses that you have to defeat to gain their respective triumphs and ultimately complete the Fever Dream Triumph.
Nightmare Breached - Pleasure Gardens
- Nightmare of Kra'lok, the Sword ("A sword and shield clash together")
- Kill Nightmare of Ha'lok, the Shield("A sword and shield clash together")
Drainage - Royal Pools
- Nightmare of Qalec, the Sniper (" A red dot briefly passes over your ghost")
Ritual Under Shadow - Royal Pools
- Nightmare of Sy'ad, the Unending ("Dark Ether fills the air")
A Guardian is a Guardian, Even in a Nightmare
The next sub-Triumph for Shadow's Return Triumph is the A Guardian is a Guardian, Even in a Nightmare. To complete this, you will have to complete four sub-Triumphs.
At the Behest of the Empress
- Defeat Au'gor, Devoted of Calus & Jai'ek, Supplicant of Calus
Exile Ended
- Defeat a Loyalist commander and release its prisoner
Battle Lines
- Defeat the Loyalist Sentinel Commander
Shared Fears
- Defeat Cek'ik, Seeker of the Dee
The aforementioned Triumphs are basically mini-events (similar to public events) that occur in the Pleasure Gardens and Royal Pools in rotations. Once you're in the area, wait for these events, which usually involve a horde of Cabals spawning, to start and kill the respective named final Nightmare bosses to complete every single sub-Triumphs.
Get to Taking Out their Commanders, One by One
The next in turn for the Shadow's Return Triumph is Get to Taking Out their Commanders, One by One. This is relatively simple to complete as you have to defeat only two roaming Nightmare bosses in Royal Pools.
- Nightmare of Ky'leks, the Docked
- Nightmare of Evoks, the Burned
Controlled Burn
The last and final objective for the Shadow's Return Triumph is Controlled Burn. For this, you will have to defeat two roaming Nightmare bosses in Pleasure Gardens.
- Nightmare of Tlazat, Fed to Beasts
- Nightmare of Uaoc, Spine Break
That's all the sub-Triumphs and their subsequent sub-Triumphs you have to complete to get the massive Shadow's Return Triumph. It can be confusing to track everything, especially since there are so many sub-Triumphs to complete. As such, we recommend focusing on completing one at a time.
Furthermore, just casually exploring the Royal Pools and the Pleasure Gardens and defeating Powerful Nightmare would help you finish most of these sub-Triumphs without even tracking them, so make sure to check whether the one you're focusing on right now isn't the one you have already completed.
That concludes our guide on how to complete the Shadow's Return Triumph in Destiny 2.
